Default Earthlink Ratings & Reviews

Earthlink Ratings & Reviews

You may want to just post a brief review of the company, and if you were a current customer with problems, also be sure to post in the Dialup ISP Discussions or the Web Hosting Discussions forums.

This thread should NOT become problem solving, strictly brief ratings & reviews please. Himerus (see previous paragraph)

Also, keep in mind, that if you are posting a complaint, or problem you are having with Earthlink, should that situation be resolved to your satisfaction at a later time, please come back and update your review with a new post to show that your situation was resolved.

Ratings & Reviews: -- Please post your comments and reviews by replying to this thread, and be sure to use the section above to specifically rate Earthlink in specific categories.

Earthlink would get an A+ if they had more pricing options. They have a $9.99 plan but it only gets 20 hours a month. It'd be great if they had more hours for a lower price tiered up the unlimited plan.

Earthlink is not all it's cracked up to be. The connection on dial-up is waivering at times. If you are a past AOL or MSN user, you better learn a little about your Internet Explorer before trying this one. I don't recommend it, honestly. There are cheaper ISPs out there that perform better and can do the same thing.

Earthlink is an oversized and 'aggressive bully' on any computer; absolutely impossible to remove. Extremely inflexible.
Connection speeds waver -- especially after the first 30 days (I have had Earthlink provided for me in several locations many times by employers, and every time the connection died to a crawl after exactly 30 days)
Earthlink reps are eager to serve, but never successful -- in one case in which I was involved, which lasted for years, with several people working to resolve the problem at the same time, business provided mail boxes were never actually available to the employees even after many hours of phone and email converstations. In most cases, the reps said such email addresses (with a % in them) were incorrect and impossible to be correct - or Earthlinks, and that ended the reps help....only two out of many ever got it resolved.
You will be plagued with busy signals and with mid stream disconnects, but not for the first 30 days.

I am currently looking for a new ISP because this one is not very reliable. Sometimes it takes me several trys dialing 5 or 6 times before I'm connected to the internet. The Accelerator only helps a little, nothing to rave about. The tech support was extremely difficult to understand and in the end only tried to cover up the problem instead of fixing it. Their advise caused my internet connection to slow down to only 28kbps, which only gave me more reason to find a new ISP. Their billing is good, but that would be expected from a company that only cares about profit and not product.

Soon to be an exearthlink customer,
LS

I have been an Earthlink customer for years and was very happy with them for all those years until the last couple of months when their dial-up connections have deteriorated. I use to never have any connection problems with them until lately. For some reason I will be connected and then I can no longer get a response from their system for 10, 20, 30 minutes, even an hour sometimes! I try to tell tech support that it's their system that's the problem but they try to tell me it's mine! This is completely unacceptable and I have decided to look elsewhere for better service. Earthlink USE to be a great ISP, but not anymore unfortunately.

The instant I signed up with Earthlink, and BEFORE I had given out my new email address to anyone, my mailbox was instantly jammed with pornographic and other spam. This despite the claims of their filters, etc.

Customer support was utterly unable to correct the problem, and I cancelled the service without sending a single email of my own.

Never again!

I tried tech support services and was dissapointed to find out that they shipping it overseas and it is for this reason alone that I am closing acccount. There is no need to pay infalted monthly charges if they're sending services overseas.

Unhappy Re: Earthlink Ratings & Reviews

I tried Earthlink, but found the accelerator program is adware. Pages I paid not to get ads, suddenly got ads. I uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times and each time it was installed the ads reappeared. None when it wasn't installed. Also they claim you are cancelled at the end of the month you paid for, but I was cancelled immediately so I couldn't use the basic service without the adware even as a backup. Years ago they were as good service so when they became available where I now live I wanted to try them again. Mistake.

Interestingly enough, EarthLink's founder, Sky Dayton built the ISP because he was fed up with the very problems everybody is now experiencing with HIS company. Funny how the wealthy seem to forget where they came from isn't it? Mr. Dayton, you will fall - those who get too greedy always do.

It seems to me earthlink has their mind stuck back in the old days of ISPs, when broadband didn't exist. At least their dialup prices reflect that. That said, they do provide a great service, and I guess you do get what you pay for.

Thumbs down Re: Earthlink Ratings & Reviews

At first, when I joined Earthlink a few years ago, I was really happy with their service and the techs were wonderful and all spoke English. Then something happened. Tech support was moved out of the US, tech support became non-existent and the quality of the dial up service went down the toilet.

And low and behold JD Powers decided that Earthlink was deserving of their coveted award.

Earthlink use to be worth the money, now they are an over priced, over rated and rude service.

I have had issues for the last several months with their software and confilicts on my WindowsXP laptop. Their email program is plagued with problems so I switched to Eudora. I have spent a small fortune on my laptop since earthlinks tech support had me do changes to the config, the Windows registry etc, all of which I found out where unnecessary adjustments and actually caused me down time. I am not a techno geek, I managed techno geeks. If I ran my call center the way Earthlink runs theirs I'd be run out of town. It is never acceptable to have hold times of more than a couple of minutes (Earthlinks average is over 25 minutes), it is never acceptable to cause a customer more problems and not offer restitution, it is never acceptable to tell a customer "gee we don't know what is wrong" when their email has been down for hours because of an earthlnk server problem. Earthlink has issues, but they let them sit. When you ask them what the problem currently is they play you for a fool. And to boot I can't even talk to someone who has a reasonable command of the English language at times.

And you just gotta love a tech who says "Is Dallas a part of the US?" Now that makes me really feel like their is competency in the Earthlink technical side. No wonder they are letting problems sit, they are probably still trying to figure out where Dallas is.

Sorry, but the service has gotten ridiculous. My email has been down for hours today and you can't even access webmail.

I think I'll switch to Intergate where I can have 100 mail boxes, professional service and a tech who speaks English thank you very much.
